Foundation Forms to Save Arlington’s Lubber Run Amphitheatre

The two-year struggle to save Arlington’s Lubber Run Amphitheatre took a new turn last month with the formation of a nonprofit foundation dedicated to bringing county government and citizens together to return the amphitheatre located near Ballston to an inviting public venue for outdoor entertainment.

The Lubber Run Amphitheatre Foundation, Inc. was incorporated by the Commonwealth of Virginia in January and held its first meeting February 7. It will file for tax-exempt status within the next few months.

Ballston/Beaver Pond Retrofit Study Launched

The Arlington County Department of Environmental Services has just launched a study to improve and retrofit the Ballston/Beaver Pond stormwater detention facility. The pond is located in the near by Bluemont neighborhood just off Fairfax Drive, Glebe Rd, Washington Blvd and I-66. The Ballston/Beaver Pond Stakeholder Group convened for its first stakeholder meeting on Saturday January 23rd at the Arlington Traditional School.

Micro Projects for Ballston & Virginia Square

We invite you to submit your project proposal/application that will be considered for funding through Arlington’s Neighborhood Conservation (NC) Program’s new initiative: Micro Projects. The Arlington County has set aside a total of $100,000 over a two-year period to fund small scale neighborhood improvement projects. The maximum cost for proposed projects is $10,000 for each neighborhood, including Ballston-Virginia Square Civic Association. Applications will be reviewed and evaluated by the NC staff through a competitive process. If you have project suggestions that exceed the $10,000 limit, please send them along as we are looking for additional NC projects, as well. BVSCA leadership needs to have your application by Monday, February 21, COB.
