Metro Seeks Input on Proposed Weekend Rail Cuts

WMATA will hold a public hearing on proposed service cuts at the Arlington County Board Room (2100 Clarendon Blvd) on Wednesday. The meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow with an “open house,” followed by a “town hall meeting” at 6:00 p.m. and a public hearing at 6:45 p.m. The meeting is one of six being held around the region this week.

Panel to Present Success Against Invasive Species at Local Parks

The Arlington County Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources is partnering with Remove Invasive Plants (RIP), a community group in Arlington, which is dedicated to removing invasive plants from the county’s parks. Both groups are coordinating with the Arlington Regional Master Naturalists to present an educational event at the Central library and would like to invite you to attend.

Foundation Forms to Save Arlington’s Lubber Run Amphitheatre

The two-year struggle to save Arlington’s Lubber Run Amphitheatre took a new turn last month with the formation of a nonprofit foundation dedicated to bringing county government and citizens together to return the amphitheatre located near Ballston to an inviting public venue for outdoor entertainment.

The Lubber Run Amphitheatre Foundation, Inc. was incorporated by the Commonwealth of Virginia in January and held its first meeting February 7. It will file for tax-exempt status within the next few months.

County Board Funds Kirkwood Road Project

The County Board voted to fund all seven Neighborhood Conservation (NC) projects that received approval by NCAC last Fall, including one from the BVSCA that would extend sidewalk from 14th Street to Lee Highway along the west side of Kirkwood Road. Construction should begin on this project in the Spring of 2012.

Ballston/Beaver Pond Retrofit Study Launched

The Arlington County Department of Environmental Services has just launched a study to improve and retrofit the Ballston/Beaver Pond stormwater detention facility. The pond is located in the near by Bluemont neighborhood just off Fairfax Drive, Glebe Rd, Washington Blvd and I-66. The Ballston/Beaver Pond Stakeholder Group convened for its first stakeholder meeting on Saturday January 23rd at the Arlington Traditional School.
